Bhaba Pass Trek

Himachal Pradesh is heaven for trek lovers, varied from difficult to easy treks. Bhaba Pass is a trek for seasoned trekkers. This trek is spread out for 8 days, starting from Kanfu after reaching Manali. Kanfu is a small outcast village in Bhaba Valley, engulfed with its beauty and free spirit and Rustic lifestyle. The beginning of the trek is on the easier side, surrounded by apple orchards and trees of wild berries, from this place we reach Mulling, where we stay over for a night. From Mulling we head for Kara, and this stretch is quite adventurous. The peaks within the borders of Kinnaur and Spiti will surely take your breath away. Phustirang is the next location after Kara. During this trek we’ll be greeted by the majestic Hansbeshan Peak which is situated at the height of 5840 meters and soon we reach our destination the Bhaba Pass and it stands boastfully at an altitude of 4850 meters and the whole path is covered with steep ascent and snow all over. At when we reach the top most point we’ll be having a wonderful view of all the other mountains passes. During the last stretch of the trek we’ll be coving Baldar, Mudh and then Kaza. On the concluding note we’ll visit Chandra Tal Lake and then we head back to Manali and thus marking the end of the trek.

Day 1: (Arrive at Jubbarhatti airport-drive from Shimla-Kanfu)

The nearest domestic airport from Shimla is Jubbarhatti airport, which connects to only two other international airports, that is Chandigarh and New Delhi airport, once you reach the airport, someone from our side will be there to pick you up. After reaching Shimla, we head towards Kanfu, and it’s a beautiful long drive of 208 kms which takes approximately 7-8 hrs to complete. Kanfu is a small village in the outskirts of Kinnaur, situated in the Bhaba Valley. We check in to the hotel tonight and the trek begins from tomorrow.

Day 2: (Trek from Kanfu-Mulling)

After a wholesome breakfast we start off with our trek from Kanfu to Mulling. The trek of today is an ascent to an altitude of 3100 meters and takes around 6 hrs to reach the destination. And during the whole trek the you’ll be finding apple orchards all around. Once we reach Mulling meadows we stay there for the night.

Day 3: (Trek from Mulling-Kara)

On this day we’ll be crossing a lot of mountain rivers via the natural bridges, and the whole process of the trek, we’ll find shepherds along with their cattle. After a steady uphill ascent, we reach Kara(3550 meters). After reaching the destination we enjoy the beauty of Kinnaur and Spiti Valley. Tonight, we rest here in tent.

Day 4:(Trek from Kara-Phustirang)

Day 5: (Trek from Phustirang-Bhaba Pass-Baldar)

Today is the ascent with the most difficulty, where we fight the heavy snow and steep rise along with it from Phustirang (4000 meters) to Bhaba Pass (4850 meters). This whole journey will take quite some time because this is an unpredictable path. Once we reach the top of Bhaba Pass the view is mesmerizing, all the hardship will bear fruit in the end. We take a short time out but soon we begin to descend on the other side along the Spiti Valley where in we enjoy the mixture of flora and fauna and the rocky texture of the mountains. As we reach the base camp, Baldar, we rest here for the night, and tonight we’re sleeping in tents.

Day 6: (Trek from Baldar-Mudh-Drive to Kaza)

After the adrenaline rushed adventurous yesterday, today we have the tamer side of the trek, where we trek down from the camp site, Baldar(3900 meters) to Mudh(3740 meters). Today’s trek is all about enjoying the scenic beauty and rejuvenating one’s soul. What might come as a surprise to most of us, that the mountain terrains of today are having a violet hue. We can also see the Pin River flowing and we can stare emptily in the open spaces. After we have reached Mudh, we’ll be heading for Kaza(3800 meters), where we check in and then stay in a hotel.

Day 7: (Drive from Kaza-Kunzum La-trek to Chandra Tal)

The drive from Kaza to Kunzum La is of 75 kms which takes around 2 hrs to cover. After we have reached Kunzum La(4550 meters), we start our trek for Chandra Tal Lake site(4270 meters). This trek will take around 3 hrs. After reaching there we will enjoy the divine sight of the beautiful azure mountain water, and a sound made by them typical to the water bodies of the mountain. After this we retire for the day and stay tonight in tents.

Day 8: (Trek down from Chandra Tal-drive to Manali)

It’s the last day of this beautiful trek, where we trek down from the camp site of Chandra Tal, and this might take half an hour or 3hrs, depending upon the situation of the road ahead. As soon as we reach the road, we board a vehicle and leave for Manali, and then we depart for the airport soon, thus marking the end of this trek.
